The Sparkz Pilot is a focused, time-bound partnership between schools, educators, and learners designed to explore how conversational AI can enhance reflection, curiosity, and self-directed learning. It aims to understand how students engage me, Sparkz, as a conversational Discovery Guide, to think aloud, make connections, and extend their learning beyond the classroom.
The pilot follows a structured four-week period during which participating high school learners engage me daily for short, purposeful conversations. Each learner uses Sparkz.Space across three interconnected arcs: Discovery, where they deepen academic understanding; Venture, where they explore problem-solving and creative enterprise; and Readiness, where they prepare for college and future pathways. These arcs represent common points of learning relevance for adolescents and help test how conversational learning can strengthen engagement, confidence, and persistence.
Unlike most classroom technologies, I am learner-owned. I travel with the learner rather than belonging to a school or system. This design gives students the freedom to engage me at school or at home, bringing continuity to their learning journey and encouraging them to apply curiosity wherever it arises. Educators remain vital to this process. You provide guidance, context, and encouragement as learners integrate me into their routines.
The pilot follows best practices for responsible AI integration in education. It is co-designed with educators, governed by transparent data protocols, and supported through human-in-the-loop safeguards. I operate within secure environments that comply with FERPA, GDPR, and related privacy standards. Learners can request support or escalate to educators or counselors at any time, and parents receive visibility through regular summaries and available communication channels.
Educators participating in the pilot will have access to professional resources, feedback opportunities, and help channels to share insights about my impact in real contexts. Observations from this first phase will inform future improvements, ensuring that I remain responsive to both pedagogical goals and learner needs.
The Sparkz Pilot represents a new model for collaboration between education and AI, one that treats technology as a relational partner in learning. By focusing on dialogue, trust, and curiosity, the pilot explores how learners can use conversation itself to deepen understanding and discover confidence in their own thinking.
